WHAT MAKES OUR Jélene™ PRODUCT LINE SO UNIQUE?
All Jélene™ products are ‘cruelty free’. The Jélene™ product line contains no known irritants or clogging agents. No mineral oil, alcohol, fragrance, dye, color, formaldehyde or any formaldehyde derivatives. We make all Jélene™ products as non-allergenic and pure as attainable.
The oil bases for Jélene™ products are Apricot or Peach Kernel Oil. They are light weight oils, high in B-carotene, and easily absorbed. Apricot kernel oil is one of the ingredients used to give the product a pleasant sweet, fresh scent. No artificial fragrance is ever used.
HOW DOES ALOE VERA WORK?
The moisture base for the Jélene™ products is our Medical Quality Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Gel. This establishes the type of oils and moisture that form the base.
The Whole Leaf Aloe Vera plant produces at least six antiseptic agents: Lupeol, salicylic acid, urea nitrogen, cinnamonic acid, phenols, and sulphur. All of these substances are recognized as antiseptics because they kill or control mold, bacteria, fungus, and viruses. Lupeol and salicylic acid are very effective pain killers. Whole Leaf Aloe Vera contains at least three anti-inflammatory fatty acids, which explains why it is highly effective for the treatment of burns, cuts, scrapes, abrasions, and allergic reactions. Whole Leaf Aloe Vera contains VITAMINS A, B & C and the entire spectrum of trace minerals which promote healing of the tissues. Whole Leaf Aloe Vera applied to the skin can prevent water evaporation, have a penetrating ability to create a seal thus retain moisture in cells.
WHAT DOES pH MEAN?
Oil and moisture the glands produce form a protective barrier called the "acid mantle" or "pH."
Because the skin is acidic (pH varies from 5.3 to 6.2) it blocks most micro-organisms from entering.
It is very important to respect and maintain the acidic "pH" of the skin. Your "pH" is your buffer agent which protects the skin from the elements. When "pH" is destroyed or imbalanced the skin is left open to absorbing dirt, pollution, bacteria and germs. The "pH" factors of a product are most important and should be directed towards the action you are trying to accomplish.
When oil and moisture (pH) are in balance, you have normal skin. Overactive oil glands produce oily skin. Under active glands produce dry skin. If a person has combination skin, we carry a product program for each condition!
WHAT CAUSES BREAKOUTS, ACNE/OILY TYPE SKIN and IS THERE A CURE?
There is no known cure for acne. Using one of Jélene™’s home treatment programs will help control and prevent acne.
Bacteria’s are the main cause for acne.
Genetics, hormones, and clogged pores can cause bacteria buildup. The hormone testosterone is known to cause increased sebum (oil) production as well.
Acne occurs when pores become clogged with excess sebum (oil) combined with dead skin cells.
As bacteria collects it causes infection, inflamed pimples, pus filled whiteheads, or blackheads. There are different varieties of acne; however, Acne Vulgaris is the most common.
Breakouts can occur because of hormonal changes, overactive oil glands in the skin, or from using the wrong skin care products.Inadequate ex foliation may contribute to clogged pores and result in blemishes. Oil and dirt invite breakouts. Blackheads are pores that become clogged due to excessive oil production combined with dirt. Make up is dirt! We recommend using Jélene™'s Trio for Oily Skin Program along with Jélene™'s Zit Zapper in addition to our 15% Alpha Hydroxy Acid or Jélene™'s Vitamin "C" with Whole Leaf Aloe Vera. Using exfoliants such as Jélene™'s Energizing Facial Scrub helps to remove bacteria, dead skin cells, and other debris, resulting in clear, soft, smooth skin. Water and oil repel. That is why Jélene™ recommends you avoid products that contain clogging agents such as mineral oil-based products.
DEFINING COMBINATION SKIN
Generally oily throughout the T-ZONE area of the face which is the forehead, nose, and chin areas. Combination skin does not require special products. We recommend the Jélene™ Trio for Oily Skin
Use the Jélene™ Moisturizing Facial Cream for oily skin on the dryer areas more frequently during the day while using the Jélene™ Eye Cream and Night Nourishing Cream at bedtime.
HOW TO AVOID DRY PATCHES ON THE SKIN.
To avoid dry patches of skin we recommend avoiding all mineral oil-based products, and removing all make up before bedtime! Try to drink eight glasses of water a day to re-hydrate lost moisture while using Jélene™'s Trio for Dry Skin Program along with Jélene™'s Eye Cream, Night Nourishing Cream and Revive Cream 15% Alpha Hydroxy Acid or Jélene™'s Vitamin "C" with Whole Leaf Aloe Vera. Using exfoliants can help remove bacteria, dead skin cells and other debris, resulting in clear, soft smooth skin.
ROSACEA
Rosacea's symptoms are broken capillaries, redness on the cheeks, nose and forehead, and acne-like lesions. Rosacea is most noticeable on fair skinned people and affects both men and women. This condition usually occurs between ages 25 and 35.
Stress, hormonal changes, wine, alcohol and excessively spicy foods can cause flare-ups. Sun exposure and extreme temperatures also aggravate the problem. We recommend using the Jélene™ Trio for your specific skin type (Normal, Oily or Dry). We also recommend Jélene™'s Sun & Wind Conqueror and eye cream. Rosacea's symptoms usually respond within two to three weeks with consistent use of this program.
An acute or chronic skin disease characterized by redness, itching, serum-filled blisters, crusting, and scaling. Predisposing factors are familial history of allergic disorders (hay fever, asthma, or eczema) and sensitivity to contact allergens or certain foods. The condition is often irritated by excessive sweating, exposure to extreme heat or cold and abnormal dryness or oiliness of the skin. Eczema can occur at any age and in both sexes. It is frequently chronic and difficult to treat, and it tends to disappear and recur. Itching can be extreme and severe. The Jélene™ product line contains no known irritants or clogging agents. No mineral oil, alcohol, fragrance, dye, color, formaldehyde or any formaldehyde derivatives. We make all Jélene™ products as non-allergenic and pure as obtainable. It is highly recommended you use the Jélene™’s Trio for your skin type.
CAN FACIAL CLEANSING CREAMS OR GELS BE USED TO REMOVE MAKE UP?
Makeup is designed to last all day. Mineral oil based make ups are heavy and clogging. Facial cleansing creams or gels are designed to clean your pores and hair follicles. Without removing your makeup before you cleanse, you are not receiving the maximum benefits from your cleanser. It is highly recommended you use the Jélene™ Make Up Remover, prior to cleansing your skin for proper treatment.
SMOKING AND ITS AFFECT ON SKIN
Smoking causes premature aging and character lines (wrinkles) around eyes and lips. How? By constantly puckering your mouth and squinting to see through the smoke. Nicotine dehydrates blood vessels. When this occurs, nicotine precedes to destroy the body's natural vitamins and minerals, such as iron and vitamins B and C. The skin becomes dull and yellowish in appearance due to lack of moisture, elasticity, and poor muscle tone.
SHOULD I AVOID THE SUN?
To prevent premature aging, alligator skin and most importantly Melanoma skin cancer! Sun damage is cumulative! Fine lines, wrinkles, and hyper-pigmentation (brown patches), in later years are usually due to sun exposure as a child. If you are sensitive or allergic to chemicals; mineral oil, alcohol, fragrance, dye, color, formaldehyde, or any formaldehyde derivatives a breakthrough in technology is available in the Jélene™ Sun & Wind Conqueror, the ULTIMATE in protection! "Every time you become sunburned, even mild sunburn, you're putting a time bomb under your skin. Time bombs that can turn into skin cancers which can spread into cancerous tumors throughout other parts of the body. Skin cancer does not usually appear until later in life. And even then, it is often ignored by Americans until it's no longer curable”.[i]
WHAT IS "SPF"
SPF Stands for "Skin Protection Factor." Everyone has a natural SPF, but this varies from person to person. SPF measures the amount of time it takes your skin to burn when exposed to the sun. When you apply a sun screen with SPF 15, you can be out in the sun 15 times longer than you can without sun screen before burning. SPF 30 means you can be out in the sun 30 times longer. It is best to avoid the intense sun typically between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you have to, or want to go out Jélene™ recommends that you protect your skin! Look for sun glasses with a UV block. Avoid Tanning Booths! The lamps used have a combination of harmful UVA and UVB rays.
UVA rays penetrate deeply into the skin which causes wrinkling. UVA rays can also burn the cornea of the eyes.
Most people today are aware that exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) ray is linked to the development of Melanoma; one of the most common forms of Skin Cancers among young adults. People with fair skin, red or blond hair, freckles and moles, are at a higher risk of developing melanoma.
MELANOMA
According to the National Cancer Institute, "Often, the first sign of melanoma is a change in the size, shape, color or feel of an existing mole". MOST melanomas have a black or blue-black area. The National Cancer Institute suggests thinking of ‘ABCD’ to help remember melanoma symptoms in moles.
DIAMETER - a change in size, usually an increase. Melanomas are usually larger than the eraser of a pencil (5 mm or 0.25 inch).
CONTACT DERMATITIS
Contact dermatitis refers to any skin rash caused by an allergic reaction - such as a reaction to poison ivy or poison oak, for instance. Cosmetic allergies usually manifest themselves as an itchy, red rash on the affected area. The most common allergens found in cosmetics are fragrances, dyes, and preservatives.
CAN AN ALLERGIC REACTION BE TREATED?
If you do not know what caused the rash, apply small amounts of the product you suspect in a non-conspicuous area of the body, such as the inside the arm, or behind the ear with clean hands or a spatula! If the patch test fails to pinpoint a particular reaction, you may have to see a dermatologist.
ALWAYS apply cosmetics to a clean face with clean hands to avoid spreading germs and bacteria. To avoid contamination, throw away and products that are old, discolored, or have a change in odor. Most important, it is imperative to avoid sharing cosmetics. Sharing cosmetics means sharing germs. Avoid using the ‘tester’ products available at cosmetic counters unless you can have your own disposable applicator. The best insurance is to buy fresh products that offer a money back guarantee. Jélene™ products are guaranteed fresh with a full money back guarantee†.
ALPHA HYDROXY ACID (AHA) - HOW IT WORKS
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Also known as Glycolic acid, which is a component of sugar cane. It is present in unripe grapes, cherries, gooseberries, rhubarb stalks, and citrus fruits i.e.; oranges, lemon, lime, grapefruit, etc.
It works by releasing the bond that holds the upper layers of dead skin together. It removes an excessive build up of dead tissue, allowing the lower layers of skin to surface. You may experience a tingling or a stinging sensation when you first begin to use an AHA product. These symptoms are normal and will usually diminish as the skin builds up a tolerance to the ingredient.
